I heard a fellow Texan say to me the other day "Hey guys, check this out!!!" After years of experience with this sort of situation my basic survival instincts kicked in and I proceeded to high-tail it away from the scene before the inevitible head-decapitating or limb-severing event took place. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Seriously... NEVER replace a fuse with an amp rating higher than what is recommended. Those ratings are there for a reason, mainly to prevent other components in the circuit from acting out the role of the fuse. A $.10 fuse is much cheaper than a $.15 resistor which requires the $40-to-plug-in-the-soldering-iron fee most electronic repair shops charge to replace such an item.
Just as you found out, there was an issue with the amp, and was easily fixed once you started taking a deeper look. Glad you were able to figure it out, rock on man.
