So, these days, I end up doing a lot of location/live recordings. There is a cable show, PDX Spotlight, which features Portland, OR bands with 5 songs of video and an interview. I do the live capture for 4 out of 5 of the bands that appear on the show, and get to mix maybe 1 out of 3 of those I capture.

We have to setup, record 5 songs, an interview with the band, and be out of the facility in about 4 hours! Generally, because they are "bands", they are too broke to afford too much mixing time after paying for the live capture.

We mixed all 5 of these in a 9 hour mix session, so roughly 1.5 hours per mix.

I could nitpick all day on the mixes, but for a total of about 2.5 hours per song to record/mix/master, I thought these turned out fantastic!

Input list:

Kick - Audix D6 (no hole on front head....sounds like ass to me...oh well)
Snare Top - Shure Beta 98
Snare Bottom - Shure Beta 98
Hi Hat - Shure Beta 98
Rack and Floor Toms - Sennheiser e604
Overheads - Custom built U87 type of clones from microphoneparts.com
Bass - DI: EWI active, Mic: Audix D6
Guitar - Sennheiser 906 and a MXL R144 modified with CinMeg transformer.
Keys - DI: EWI active
Vocals - Sennheiser e935

Preamp/recording interface: Behringer X32 Rack

Some of the vocal harmony/double was done via a TC Helicon pedal, but most effects were via the DAW.

Recorded/Mixed in Reaper!

Enjoy!

I listened to all of them and I have no nits as live recordings. Come to think about it I wouldn't have any nits if they were not live. Great Job Ed! It is Ed right? Mr. Green

Excellent for live recording. I've heard that more performers these days are opting to record their live shows. If they could hear the quality level of this sort of thing, there'd be more.

I am hoping to get more of this kind of work. It is tough when you are trying to get money from musicians! Wink

These recordings sound great. I like the bass sound on track 3. Great job on the quick turn around!
