on an otc am/fm receiver, in my case, Sherwood. does the aux and tape ins/outs talk to each other?

If you mean are they parallel, then I think yes, but I'm usually wrong.

not sure what that means, but what I'm trying to get is my Tascam audio out so the receiver, which runs my speakers, and at the same time a way to take the recording from the Tascam to the cd burner for my mixdown. does that make sense?

Yes that makes sense. I believe either the aux or the tape jacks will do it. So in that sense they do talk to each other. But, if the receiver has a switch for selecting either aux or tape then you may have to A/B them. So if that is the case you would not hear the audio as you burn it, but is there a headphone connection?

Something like this might work.

Pick up a couple of RCA splitters. One for each channel (L/R), then run one set to the CD Burner and the other to the AV Receiver.

I think that will achieve what you want..
