I've bitten the bullet and ordered a RME Firewire 800- should be an improvement over my Dogi 002R

I hope this thing lives up to the reviews

I'm using Firewire and it's fine. Then in two years we can switch over to everything going USB 3. Smile

The USB version didn't have as many I/O which for me was an important criteria- I was going to get the Motu 828mk3... but they're back-ordered into February and I that's too long to wait. I'm not sure if the 002R is starting to have issues (2005) or if it's the PPC (early 2006), but the errors are become a real pain... more on mix than recording,, but there's upgrades available to me which I can't utilize because the PPC won't run Snow Leopard or the software is only for Intel Macs....

I think I'll need to get more than 2 years on the RME... and coupled with a PowerMac 8 core, I hope i'm set for another 5!

I'm assuming you mean the Fireface 800? Man, those are nice. Top-shelf preamps. Will you be using all 8 inputs at once? If so, what's the layout? Are eight inputs enough, or are you daisy-chaining another interface?

Yes, dat be da one!

I'm using a Presonus D8 optical (and it will accept a 2nd ADAT in), plus SPDIF (ART DP II).. in addition to the 8.... I/we typically use 14 -16 inputs at once... and I needed the low latency 8 analog outs for the headphone matrix. and it also has the 2 internal pre's separate from the 8 analog in

more inputs than i can imagine needing

Nice! So potentially, you've got 24 mic inputs at your disposal? I'm envious, what with my paltry 16. Hopefully you can get the three devices to play nice together. I had some difficulty latching the FW1884 and the 8Pre. I'm sure your Fireface has an excellent word clock. Is that your plan, to sync the others to the RME?

it's 28x28, so signal routing possibilities are damn near unlimited for anything I'll likely do!

Yes, I have been synching to the D8 (much better than the 002R) and I'm the RME's clock will be noticeably better (and I hope that's tre)
