preferably 2 channels so I can use all 18 input options (we've added a 5th member and I'm presently using all 16 inputs and a couple more would be nice so we'd not have to stop while a few things get re-routed

suggestions

Depends on your taste and budget.
Probably the cheapest good one I can think of is the ART Digital MPA.

I guess a second route is find a 2 channel spidf converter and then buy a pre you are happy with.

On the cheap some good 24 bit 44.1 or 48k converters can be had for as little as $100 such as the M-Audio Flying Cow or others.
If you need higher rez up 96k it gets back to bigger bucks.

44.1 and 48K are all I've recorded in thus far-

While I'm not on the 'cheap" the main use will be rehearsal/live recorded sessions, so they'll be bleed enough to add noise- still I don't want a piece of crap (almost said the B word Laughing )

hadn't looked at the ART, have looked at the Aphex 207d (I think that's the one)

How about one of these..
I have a 122-L and it works very well, but no spdif. The new 144 has spdif in and out..
