I've got an ART Tube Pre that runs off a wallwart that outputs 9V. What happens if I run it off a wallwart that outputs 12V? I kill it? Nah... I shorten its life? I screw up the tube? I invent a new sound?

Honestly.. not a good idea. That is 30% MORE voltage than what it is expecting to see. While they will design for small overloads, 30% is HUGE.

Get to Rat Shack and buy a 9..

I'm not totally sure. According to a long post skod made one time, wal warts are so poorly made that they frequently put out way more than their rating. He said a situation like this shouldn't be a big deal and that things meant to run on walwarts have a pretty wide range of juice they could take.
You're certainly not gonna screw up the tube since they routinely take 100's of volts in amps.

And Fulltone makes a point to tell customers that you can run their nine volt pedals up to 18v.
But you have to MAKE SURE that it's DC if that's what it needs and AC if THAT'S what it needs.

I'd research it a bit or ask skod directly.
He'd know. I have his number.

Well, the worst you could do is rid the world of one of those awful little boxes. Our bass player insists on running his Alembic through one, and it makes it sound like a $100 import...
