bought a lil Squire Jazz bass a couple of weeks ago. Its the active Jaco Jazz with the ebonal fretboard. I like it as much, if not more than any bass I own. I only payed $300 for it. Just sayin'

Hey, Toki - you know how to hold a bass. Good to see you, and glad you like the new bass. I got a good new bass for relatively cheap too - Fender Aerodyne.

hey yall!

Troj, I listened to some really well done weird shit you did in the clinic. 'hat's off!

Yup Lbanks, I don't play the price. If I like it, it don't matter what it costs.

Dobro, the aerodyne is a really good bass. Good touch, balance, sound, style.

Actually, I was planning to play my BEADed Jazz, but the nut broke. This one is the bass I play most. I play the Conklin at home, but It doesn't do the gigs.

I also like how the strap cost more than the bass.

I got myself a used Squier Jazz today voor 125,- euros. Stringed with flatwounds which is new to me. Just a simple bass to kick around a bit, replace some parts, maybe a (fretless) Warmoth neck further down the line but so far I'm already liking it. It can produce those distinct J-sounds quite nicely and it has a cool finish to boot.

I hear ya.
I play mainly on a '5' myself. But to me for some reason a '4' is just as much fun.

Does your 5-string have a lower B or a higher C?

I can't imagine me ever using a lower B string - I almost never play the low E on my four-string.

A low B which is what I think most 5 strings are.

Ummmm .... the coolest thing about a 5 string is NOT the extra low notes although I do use them.
But the coolest thing is being able to play that low E on the 5th fret instead of having to hit an open string. Oftenh needing to hit an open string messes up an easy to play pattern you're doing.
The low B string also allows you to play say, a low G on the 8th feet for example.
So while the low notes ARE useful .... the coolest thing is being able to stay in your fingering patterns more.

I've been experimenting with BEAD setup; trying to bypass some of that arthritis pain while keeping a low B. Works... for most songs.

I think I could do without the G for most songs too.

I love my cheap bass. It's a Peavey Mark IV.. Active pickups.. great narrow neck, easy to play sounds terrific.

My only bass at the moment is a cheapo Squire Pbass I got for $95 on Ebay. Works fine.
I've only played 5 string a few times, and while I can see the potential, I was playing conventional 4 string material. Ignoring the low B was nearly impossible!

I've been playing a lot of bass in the last few weeks and I've seen the light. A five-string would be great. More possibilities for more keys.
