I can't believe I'm asking this (it's THE beginner's question) but what's a good, small and light bass for a (small) female beginner? She wants to spend about 300 dollars.

I tend to think of Ibanez basses (the SR's) first, but I'm kinda out of the market. I only buy expensive Pedulla's! Very Happy

I don't know what they sound like, and I don't know how they play, and I don't even know what they cost, but a Mustang bass on a girl is fantastic looking.

(Sorry, I don't know low end basses that well either. My first guess would also have been Ibanez SR, but they don't make a short scale as far as I know, if that's a consideration. Rondo/SX also has a whole series of really cheap basses that people seem to like, including a 30" P-bass knockoff, but I've never played one.)

I love my Ibanez SR. It's a great bass and I think of it as a guitar players bass because of the thin neck which might make it good for smaller hands.

The Fender Precision Aerodyne I just bought is light AND thin-bodied AND thin-necked. It's A Very Nice Instrument Indeed. I got a deal on it, but I think it retails normally at about $1K Canadian. Lighter than my previous Ibanez by about a kilo, I think.

How about the Epiphone EB0 bass? It's a short scale neck, so should be more suited to a beginner female. I'm not sure how much they cost in Clogland. Smile

Ibby SR's play very easy, and the 200/300 series are basswood so they are light. I have taught girls in their early teens how to play on my sr200fm and it was very comfortable for them.
