QSC- very reliable

Crowns aren't bad eithier

The older Peaveys are workhorses... and in a pinch make great boat anchors

If that is really 125 bucks, it is a screaming deal, IF it works. Chances are though that something is wrong with it.

The Macrotech series amps are work horses! A sound company I used to work for used them exclusively on FOH, and they always delivered!

I agree that QSC is a good way to go. Be careful with Peavey. They tend to have thermal problems. If you get one, keep it VERY clean and cool.

Believe it or not, the new line of Behringer amps are proving to be fairly decent.

Don't overlook Carver if you're shopping used. Good sounding, and reliable amps that don't take up a lot of space.

I have a PM 1.5 that I bought used back around '94. I used it to power both the mains, and monitors for a loud 5-piece band with 5 singers, an acoustic guitar, and keys. It's never let me down.

Treeline, .........no......nuthin yet Crying or Very sad

M.Brane, ..Yah, that is one of the amps I watching on the "bay" now, along with a crown D-75. Not really sold on the D 75, seems underpowered for my needs. Got my eye on a Mackie and about nine other amps from A to Z. Rolling Eyes
Looking for something with a one or a two rackspace footprint about 400 to 600 watts.

Don't forget to check the pawn shops. Make them a really lowball offer, with cash in hand, and chances are, they'll take it.

That's how I got a Mackie 300 speaker for $100.00.

GT Cool

I'd stay away from something like an old Crown D-75. The old ones, at least, were fond of putting DC thru your speaker for the brief amount of time it takes DC to eat a speaker.

I picked up an older 600 watt Pyramid power amp a while back for $45.
Too cheap to pass up. Works great and pushes my JBL Control 1's like a crazy, more than enough power even in stereo mode.

Cool. I just picked up a somewhat geriatric Crown Micro tech 600. It woke my Peavey wedges right the hell up. No trouble - just clear and ballsy. The Crowns are rated right down to a one ohm load! Shocked
