Gotta say I'm loving Reaper 3. I was using a Roland but since installing Reaper it's all I use.

Basically I use a guitar jack to USB cable for a clean DI into Reaper. I use my own metronome so I don't have any latency issues ( ie I'm not hearing a lag between the computer and me unplugged ), then add some FX via Reaper after.

Good stuff. Very Happy

I did move from Sonar 3 to Reaper at about 1.5. I haven't got in to 3 yet ( haven't had time) but I plan on upgrading soon. I work faster in Reaper in getting ideas down, which is what it's all about isn't it?

I've even turned people on to it whilst playing World of Warcraft, but that's another story Wink

Same here, once I've fired the old Roland up and selected various tracks/fx etc I could have fired up Reaper and just gone straight into laying some ideas down. I find it's a quick answer to laying some ideas down on the spur of the moment too.

Which Roland did you have?

Before Sonar I was using an old VS-840EX (upgraded to HDD).

The VS840GX; I'm thinking of modding the drive so it takes a flash drive instead of Zip disks. It's a great machine once you get your head around the various menus, hence me plugging into Reaper most of the time.

Aside from the guitar effects you would be better off not using it, reducing a DA/AD conversion. Have you tried FreeAmp?

You mean this :-

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2426.html

May download it anyway. Like I said I have less free time now for recording so Reaper is my main choice there.

Can I import PT sessions into Reaper (it would be a major PITA to have convert (bounce) everything to .wav or .aiff

Hey Stainless --

Apparently one must consolidate all their tracks first, and since I don't use Pro Tools, I don't know how to do this, but this thread discusses it:

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=32977&highlight=import+sessions

Might want to keep an eye on it. Btw, there's an article in the new EQ with the guy who recorded the new Fiery Furnaces album with Reaper and a few cheap plugins and mics. Has some great bullet points about the program.

Fwiw, what little I've used it, I've been very impressed.

Ken

Cool- consolidating is pretty simple (and fairly quick... not a RTAS function)

Silly question- Can I run Reaper without having an interface for it so I can test importing PT sessions?

Yep, it'll run without an interface. It'll just ask the usual questions about looking for the missing device. Just cancel, and it'll open without it.

OK... got the "Insert media" function figured out
any ideas how/if there's a way to make it see the core audio so it will playback through my monitors instead of the computer speaker (like i-tunes and quicktime , etc do?) preferences doesn't see anything but "built in audio"

So you're on a Mac? You probably already know this, but if you go (in finder) to applications>utilities>audio midi control, you can select your outputs there.

found it!

now---- I can't seem to get the lamelib to download/expand/work.... Stuffit tells me it's not encoded... moving to the application directory (where Reaper is... doesn't seem to work... I can render to .wav... import into PT... but that's rather self defeating

if I can get past this- Reaper seems pretty straightforward
