Or Son of...

Take your pick.

Here's last year's info:
http://www.recordingproject.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=19762

This year, it's Victoria Day weekend, aka the weekend before Memorial Day weekend: 5/17-20. We won't really get rolling til Fri 5/18, but we'll have some kind of pre-party going Thursday for the early arrivals - I missed last year's preparty, but plan to make it this year.

Objectives:
jam
record
eat
drink
hang
camp

I have 10 acres in the countryside and 1/5 ac. pond. There's a KOA a half mile down the road with an outdoor pool (book early - they were full last year) or you can camp in my yard - plenty of room. Two back decks for a jam stage, plus room to record inside: since we're recording geeks, it's a good chance to get some quality recording done.

Changes from last year:
1) The new hot tub is in;
2) 3rd rear deck added;
3) Canadiens won't have to duck out early;
4) speaking of ducks, no sign of them yet, but it's early;
5) have my new superportable MH-4 recorder, should be easier to get some quality live jams captured;
6) Kgirl promised she would sing;
7) We have satellite internet now. This would imply we could stream audio out, but I don't have a clue how to make that happen. If nothing else, we can download porn faster, haha.

Despite the preceding dumb porn joke, this WILL be a family friendly event. Sean's probably bringing his kids, Skags might bring his, at least one of my grandkids will be around, and rats is, as always, permanently young at heart.

We had 20+ last year, hope for the same or more this year.

2006 Attendees who have indicated they are planning a return engagement:
Jennifah
Kgirl72
Consul
rats
RWhite
seanmorse & fam
Buck62
Annie
pglewis
The entire Daf clan

2006 attendees who have not confirmed:
Jeffro (doubtful)
Betty & Hulk (missing?)
Mr. Crappy (doubtful)
Reshp1
Vestast & Lisa (? - see SAS thread at that other place)
dough
forceman

Voxfesters from previous years who've expressed an interest:
2lim
dispelled_myths

other folks from whom we have nibbles:
Skagerrak & fam
bdgr
stratmonkee

Use your favorite mapping program to find directions to:

13280 Atwell Rd.
Emmett, MI 48022

We're right off I-69, 25 miles west of I-94 and 45 miles east of I-75. Or, for Michigan Highways, 12 miles east of M-53 and 4 miles west of M-19.

No admission charge or fees of any kind: party's on my mom, may she rest in peace.

Questions?

I'll have the drummer kid with me though Smile

and scrubs

In fact, unless you have something REALLY important planned for that weekend ... you should all be there. I reserve the right to bitch at everyone about attendance because it takes me 24 hours to get there. LOL

Sadly, no Voxvendor this year - got a pm a couple weeks back. But Nilton would be cool - did he say he's coming? And if he could drag Chris or Charva along, even betterer. er.

Thanks Daf.
This is probably a dumb question, but what is Foxfest and is it different than Jamfest?

It's Vox not Fox. Smaller and more intimate, and at least an attempt to get some quality recording done, though that really only happened at Voxfest I. Hope springs eternal though.

Last year, jams happened, but it was more a bonding experience than anything else, and absolutely nothing got recorded. We all became fierce friends though. Pretty cool.

Every Voxfest (I've been to all 4), and every Jamfest (I've been to 4 also) has been different. Mostly due to different people showing up, but also things like weather, time, and whether the cops showed up, LOL.

So Jamfest: 12-bar blues and classic rock jams, smelly hippies, lots of food and drink, a metal jam, an acoustic jam, and 70 or 80 people, I think.

Voxfest: more jams on originals and arrangements, fewer straight covers and 12-bar shredparties, showers for everyone, lots of food and drink, and 20 or 30 people. Though it would be fun if 70-80 showed.

One other diff at VF - no passing the hat. This is on my mom, who passed away a little over a year ago and left me a little income producing investment that's just enough to pay for this party each year. The size and scope of JF makes it so those guys decided to let folks contribute: actually part of the fun (says the guy who won all the cool shit at the auction last year), but just another difference. I think people both places understand some folks are spending their last nickel just to get there, so AFAIK contributions aren't mandatory at JF. And they're thankfully and graciously declined at VF, unless somebody sneaks them into a book on the bookshelf and doesn't tell me til afterwards, LOL. Hopefully everyone understands that's not necessary this year.

Questions?

Daffy

Did I really type Foxfest? LOL
I stand a much better chance of talking my wife into it if it's a Voxfest!
Nice of you to host it!
I'll talk it over with my better half.

It's looking good Jay!

I believe I can handle a 3 fest 2007!!!

I'll be travelling light and counting on Rats for the things I need to survive a weekend away from home.....nudge, nudge.

Hey, I set up a bar in the boot of the MINI at the last VoxFest at Joe's.....and he never knew.....I think Embarassed

Looks like a 4-5 hour drive through God's Country (Canada) and over the Sarnia Bridge into Hell.

I'll be bringing one guitar and an amp.

What are the house rules on alcohol consumption?

Dave

Drink up. Remember there are kids around. Don't fall in the pond or the fire pit.

That's about it. I don't want to know about controlled substances - "don't ask, don't tell" pretty much sums that issue up.

It's always under control.

I'm too old and boring to get crazy, ya know?

Oh yeah, and "Don't let Participant fall in the pond". Though that's more for historical reference anymore...

ANother trick is to throw a blanket over the brand new tv in the back seat of your car so no-one knows it's there lol.

I admit to being guilty of a taste of scotch or someting similar, how can one resist?

Hope I can make it down again, missed ya last year Charva

Man, this is gonna be the best birthday ever. I love nothing more than rockin' out for a weekend, and meeting new ppl. It looks like Rats and Daf will be the only two that I have met before, but I can't wait to meet the rest of ya.

I'm actually debating whether I should go, now. It feels kinda silly to exclude myself, given that I live 30 minutes away from the whole event, but I've been fighting a bout of feeling like a useless hack music-wise.

It's still a ways away, so there's plenty of time.

You're a good drummer, man. It's not like we've got an overabundance. Where'd this crisis of confidence come from?

Besides, it's a chance to hang with your buds...
