Brecker was probably the leading tenor of his generation pre-Branford Marsalis.

His breakthrough fusiony albums with brother Randy although having little to do with contemporary jazz were very popular with younger audiences and no doubt lured many of them into jazz music proper.

If he'd been a guitarist, of course, there'd be endless eulogies to his 'genius' on music chat sites.
