Did a search on the whole of RP and couldn't find anyone mentioning one.

I picked one up today, partly for the wife to learn, and partly for me to learn.

It's supposedly sounds like a cross between a clarinet and sax... my first attempt at playing it sounded like someone passing wind... but I've got a lot to learn (never played a reed instrument before).

The original has been around for like 20 years. I picked up a Pocket Sax (black standard) as it was probably the only one for sale at a shop in Australia..

Just curious if anyone has heard/owns/or has played one?

Here's the website: http://www.xaphoon.com/

There are some samples up on the site so you can hear what it sounds like.

Daniel

hmmmmm ..... as a sax player I have to say that I've never seen one in person although I've heard them mentioned before.
For me they wouldn't be too useful since the fingering is different but they do look intriguing.

went and listened to some of the samples ...... pretty cool sounding.
Only thing is with that recorder fingering you have limited notes available which is why they are different keyed.
Would be interested in hearing what you do with it ..... looks like it might be an easy way to get some horn sounds on your recordings without having to get someone like me to do it for you.

Pretty cool sounding ...... mostly like a clarinet ...... nice.
