I'd be one bad assed singer!... Put the qualities of, Joe Elliot, Bryan Adams, Bon Scott, Layne Staley in a blender and whatever pours out of it, is what I'd like to be. Very Happy

I like to have a drink of that blender mix but then I would sound like Voxx...... so I guess I will make my own blend.

Robin Zander of Cheap Trick
Al Green
Chris Cornell of Audioslave
Tony Bennet

I am sure there are many others.

Yes. Razz

All joking aside. If you think about it, that would be one UNIQUE voice. Smile

I would give my left, and my right nut(s) to have the voice of Patty Griffin! Of course that would probably part of the bargain, as the devil can only give you so much, for a lousy soul! Wink

Ian Gillan was good
Freddy Mercury no slouch
But a younger Paul McCartney had it all.

They were over in the same quadrant, weren't they - Cocker and Ray Charles, I mean. I think Ray Charles' voice was more interesting, though.

I like voices, I like their variation. But I *really* like black voices a lot. I've been listening to old groups like the Golden Gate Quartet and the Inkspots and newer groups like the Dixie Hummingbirds and a lot of Howlin' Wolf lately. Such nice sounds. I mean, is there such a thing as a black voice? Well, if there is, I tend to like it a lot.

I never had the "gravelly growl" early on.... it just happened... at first I could contain it, now it's there most of thime unless I sing really quiet.... which uh, isn't a practical attribute for someone who sings.

I grew up listenening (ala parents) to Ray Charles, Fat's Domino... OK and Frank Sinatra, so a definite influence ... especially being aw white kid in the SF east bay. I had the extreme pleasure of talking to Booby Sharp, who wrote "Unchain my heart" for Ray Charles. Turns ouyt he lives a block from where I grew up! He sent me 6 unpublished songs, one of which I've worked with a bunch and hope to do something with.

The "edge", I've lost control of... it's there no matter how hard I try to contain it.

that's noty to insinuate that I think I have a Charles or Cocker voice, but they both emulate such feeling, if I can attain a fraction of that, I'm a happy man!

Robert Plant is a good choice.

Steven Tyler is another of my favorites but top of the list:

Tommy Shaw

Adam Pascal - easily beats everything I have heard in the rock category. I guess he is shouldn't count though as he is a classical Broadway singer, which means he was actually taught to sing - unlike all rock singers who think it all comes "naturally."

Interesting question. I think I'd be quite happy if I sounded like Bob Catley, or Joe Lynn Turner.
