I found my old 1604 (I forgot I had... Embarassed ) and am giving it to my son to use with his band. This is the old one, not the VLZ or the Pro.

What we're trying to figure out is what kind of output this thing has, as far as hooking up some PA speakers to it

We've read thru the manual, emailed Mackie (they said it didn't matter, depends on the venue and size of the club...?) but nothing as far as if we need some ???watt speakers or to get some actives.

When I was using it, I just used it in my studio for pre's. Never used it live so I'm kinda in the dark.

I've read this old review and couldn't find anything on it.

My son's pretty jacked about it and I don't want to steer him wrong.

Any thoughts?

Thanks gents........

I don't think it's a powered mixer, so you would need either an amp and some speakers, or active speakers.

Well it's not a power mixer so if your looking to use it in a live situation you will need to run the mains or subs or whatever to a PA system .
I have a 1604vlz and you can get I beleive 15 or 25 watts out of it to play thru regular home stereo speakers but that won't do you much good with a band .

You either need to hook up to a PA or powered speakers like some of the Mackie or Peavy Active (self powered) Loud Speakers .

From what I recall:

L/R out and 4 aux outputs

In it's day it was THE breakthrough board that made live mixing affordable.

You also have 8 insert points which could go to a multi-track device.

Yeah, it's a pretty decent board and I think it'll be a great start for the boys but I do recall something about Mackie oopsed on the wiring of the XLR's or something. Like the tip and ring wiring is backwards. Or something. I dunno. Anyway, they're tickled with it and that's fine with me. Very Happy
Thanks again......
