in a mid-late spring, week-end, ACOUSTIC mini jamfest at my place. No real plans yet, but I really would like to do this. I'll be gone today and back Sunday nite. talk amongst yourselves. here's a few tidbits I've thought so far.
MARCH 26-27-28
all acoustic (except electric bass, amp supplied)
no drum sets (hand percussion ok)
keyboards are welcome
all food supplied and cooked
can sleep up to 20 inside (including 2 private rooms for pairs)
plenty of tent space
rain or shine

recording will be optional, I can do 4 tracks with 4 condenser mics. but this is not the main objective. I just thought if the interest is there, a few folks could get together to meet and have some fun.

Even though I wouldn't think anyone would fly in, you could check out Danville, Va.(30 miles), and Lynchburg, Va. (50 miles). Small airports but closest. I'm located in South Boston, Va., about 20 miles north of Roxboro, N.C. in south cental Va. So maybe this could be a Va., Carolinas, Maryland, etc. fest.

I'm thinking like Fri. Sat. Sun., but anyone with the time off can do Thur. and Mon. My time is all free. Shit you can stay a week.

Anyway, if'in there's enough interest we can start with picking a date. I'd like to do anytime from say, mid March thru May. and if it's only 5 folks that live close, that's fine. Like the Q man says, it's not all about the music and recording, but the fun of meeting different members of this site. Eat, drink, and be merry.

So there you go. check your calendars.

MARCH 26-27-28

Not a bad idea Dan. I don't play a lot of acoustic these days but that Voxfest thing is getting too kinky for this Old Timer. Rolling Eyes

Ok, you got me! Being a former Virginian and wanting to revisit, plus my love for acoustic stuff, I couldnt pass this up. Shit, Ill spend a week or something if its ok like you said. Might head up to Blacksburg and Richmond area too, chill, hang out, blow each other. You know how it goes. Hook me up with more info when it becomes available. And Id be happy to donate some food or well, pretty much anything too. Ok, good idea! Hope you dont mind if I bring my Martin too Wink

Yep, Im all set, you give me a weekend, and Ill just take off, as long as I dont have any exams around then! Wink But, should be great, and if we want to record, I can bring up a Powerbook if someone has some kind of little interface to hook up to it, so long as its Firewire or USB (probably Firewire). Ok, well, lets get the ball moving, shit, even if its just us that have responded now, we can have a heck of a time Smile

My Wife says these are best. March 26-27-28, and April 16-17-18. She likes these so she doesn't have to go to our son's baseball games by herself in Highpoint N.C.

And corg, I don't have computer access in the basement. I have my 788, which can do up to 6 inputs at once. I only have 4 condenser mics, and 4 pres with phantom power. But when we record the band, it's usually all we need for 4-5-6 folks playing and singing. But that's just details. Like I said, the fact of just being able to meet, socialize, and have a lot of fun is first. Recording would be second.

And even though we're country folk, we do have heat if it's cool. And no trouble with rain, cause we can be inside. I can cook in the rain also. We can talk menu after we tie down a date.

bd, hell, I don't play bluegrass when the other guys aren't playing. I was thinking of having some of them come one night, and the other would be for us. Or not.

Sounds like a big time. Later.

Dan

Ok, cool, well, I can provide the computer then if we decide to record, and would be plenty glad to help out grilling and all. Definitly have the group over one nite for some pickin' and grinnin' Very Happy Even if Im not too seasoned to sit and jam for hours with them, itd be fun to sit in a bit and watch and hang around as well. The other nite, we can all play songs everyone knows and do simple little 12 bar progressions and all that we can all play around with and jam, what not. Otherwise, good food and good company come first by far. Those dates dont seem bad, and itd be especially nice if one of them was on my spring break. Sheez, Id be up for a while (lol, I love how Im just inviting myself up to your place to stay). Anyways, ok, lets start getting a little organized then I guess. Ill PM you a number you can reach me at in case you want to get a hold of me and talk some plans out and get organized when it gets a little closer to when we will do this. Awesome ideas, keep more coming!

Hmmm, I might be able to swing it if I mix in a visit with my Mom in FLA earlier in the week. Can I bring digital bongos?

It's looking like March 26-27-28 is looking pretty good. As soon as I hear from a couple folks, we'll try and nail a date.

Jon, if you are in FLA, and would need to come back after, chances are we might all be able to just carpool from a certain point. Where in FLA are you visiting? This is becoming more and more well strung as it goes. Looking forward to this!
