The artist who placed this song on hold gave me permission to post it to RP so here it is. Song was written in response to what happened in Charllottseville and both sides hopefully find something in this song that appeals to them.

Hey Jim!

Thanks for reaching out on SC.

All in all, this is a good mix instrumentally. I'm not a huge fan of the vocal treatment. First, it's lacking an "edge". It sounds like it was sung through a towel. There's a lack of brightness to it.

I understand the singer has a rasp to his voice, but the boxy eq makes the rasp sound almost like distortion.

That's my only complaint about the mix, though. It is otherwise done.

Thanks for your feedback Kev! The singer is me and there is no EQ on the vox. I will re mix the song and repost it to see if I can find that edge. The entire song was recorded on my Ipad Air 2 using Auria Pro. It has been a learning curve for me to say the least.

I thought it might be, but didn't want to assume it was. I know it sounded like you, but it has been a while. Very Happy

Interesting that you went w/ an iPad. My keyboard player bought one, and we had a dickens of a time figuring it out. Eventually, in order to have more availability w/ programs, I had him buy a Windows rig.

I bought an MSI Dominator GT72 laptop which is set up for gaming and recording a year and a half ago but never used it. Spent $2400.00 for it and now it is just sitting. I think I am going to put it on ebay for $1500.00 rather than just let it sit. If you know someone who wants it let me know. I loaded Mixcraft 7 on it too. 17 inch screen.

I bought a Samsung Ultra Book (slimline) when I started the new band. We used my regular studio rig when I recorded the band at my home, but I had everyone set up in different rooms (for isolation), and though sonically it worked, the experience was not completely conducive to catching a vibe.

I've now got everyone in the same space in my basement, and I'm about to launch into a new session using the Samsung laptop (which is actually more powerful than my studio rig) to lay the tracks down.

Good luck with your new sessions Kev! I EQ'd the vox and wondering if it is any better? By the way this song has just been placed on hold by a mainstream country artist. I can't say who yet but once it is recorded I can.

Right out of the gate ... you fixed the eq, but the distortion in the vocal remains.

WAY better sonic on the vocal in tonality ... but the "breakup" is happening on it.

Give a listen to the crackle.

Thanks once again for listening Kev. The vocal mic is a Neumann BCM104
http://tinyurl.com/y7z8evej with a Warm Audio Tone Beast http://tinyurl.com/y74eljvf on the vocal chain. I'm thinking I had the saturation dialed in a little too high which is the distortion / breakup. The only fix is to re do vocals. Mad

No prob, bud. Interestingly, when you redid the EQ, the crackle became way more apparent.
