A bit, yes. The whole site is a bit dusted, actually.

Almost. The place used to throb. (I mean, look at all the forums!) But a few leading lights moved on or died or got bored and now the site isn't much more than the chat room and the occasional post here or there. I've been hoping for a resurrection based on a migration from another site, but it hasn't happened.

Two things contributed to it, I think. When it was still attracting a lot of users, the site maintained a 'no abuse' policy and banned some of the more rambunctious people. Some took issue with that and walked. And underlying THAT was the fact that there weren't really very many really knowledgeable people here - few or no pros. When a site like this lacks pros, there's nothing keeping people here aside from sociability, nothing to attract new people aside from the desire to join a club of like-minded hobbyists. Other sites have the expertise or the forums that allow flames, and that's ensured their popularity.

I think the "forum era" as a whole has slowed dramatically over the past couple years. Which is a bummer...

"Any idea why that is? SOS is still vibrant, Homerecording.com also, and your site has grown really quickly (that was a bit of a migration, though, right?). Why do you say it's slowed?

Just sort of "feels" that way -- More "specific" forums seem to be growing to some extent... Gibson's forum isn't really going anywhere fast -- But MyLesPaul is a busy place. Harley's unofficial forum is gigantic but many of the "motorcycling" forums have withered.

Just an observation though -- Not really a study or anything. There are certainly some forums that have a strong following -- But many of the "medium traffic" ones seem to have become the low traffic ones. But that's sort of a natural progression too I suppose.

I think information is too available now. You can type a question into google and find a page that will provide an answer. Of course, the question remains on whether that answer is actually a good answer ...

One of my biggest pet peeves with forums used to be how hard it was to decipher what people are actually saying. But now, I'd say that's part of the art of communicating - figuring out what the heck someone is saying, and being patient enough to stick it out until you can understand each other.

I still love this place. And I love that it still has the same layout. Having something stay visually the same in a world of endless upgrades and changes is actually refreshing. Or maybe I'm getting old ... hah!

Yeah, it's funny, isn't it? The reason this place is so reassuring is cuz it isn't working. Laughing

It's a nice forum to hang out but there are few posts here these days. Dobro is one of the sole "livewire" contributors.

Damn shame... This place will always be my favorite forum. I miss Daf Sad

FWIW, I've been swamped with regular work and studio work, and haven't spent much time here in the past couple years, but it's great knowing at least some of you guys are still around. Skod took me to school with the new studio location. I could've spent weeks Googling through miles of nonsense without getting anywhere. There's no substitute for real people with real knowledge.

^This^.

Get three people here who really knew their recording and who liked to type posts, and this place would rebound.
