BTW, something I learned subsequent to the failed gifting attempt: NAFTA means that most stuff is shipped duty-free across the border in either direction, provided it was made in either Canada or the US. Rode mics aren't. My guess is that's what queered the deal.

There's always the Beyer M130 and m160 to consider. I've been curious about them for a long time. Not bling bling, not too cheesy, good steady solid reviews over the years, and possibly available used in the $300-400 range.

I suppose you've already looked over the Cascade mics?

yeah, looked at the Gomez... as the Beyers I've seen... they must have a rather short ribbon

I'm now seriously thinking about the AEA 84 velocity.... mainly because if i don't like it, I can probably sell it for about what I pay for it....

but... who knows... we're auditioning keyboard players so my attention span has been re-directed....
