Why did you throw the Jack of Hearts away
It was the only card in the deck I had left to play

Wonderful, for a dreadful poet. Cool I'm hearing this song for like the first time. This, Polly Harvey and Robert Plant are the best stuff that I've heard recently. Recorded, I mean. Live, I guess it would be me. Cool Don't get around much anymore.

LA Woman is just the same sort of lyric he always did - impressionistic, crawling kingsnake stuff and the listener fills in the details with what Jim leaves out - but it works as well as the gruff voice: "mojo rising...mr mojo rising"

I'm sorry he didn't live longer and make more music. He was getting gruff, and that was great. Maybe that was as gruff as he could get. Dunno. But such good music, and the lyrics just add to it.

Well written, that man!

Well, maybe my impressions are a bit incoherent, and maybe your non-sequitur's exactly what they deserve, but what do you think of Jim Morrison's lyrics generally? Back in the day, I used to like the music the Doors made, but Jim's lyrics used to put me off. But listening to the album LA Woman, I'm thinking that the lyrics just about worked. Morrison Hotel too - the lyrics on that album just about worked too, aside from that one drippy tune.
